Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is used to relax the nervous system, help lift depression, stimulate circulation, detoxify the body and ease aches and pains. Essential oils or aromatic essences can be used in many ways:

  • massaged into the skin
  • taken orally
  • diluted in baths and foot-baths
  • used in inhalants

Aromatic essences are volatile, oily, fragrant substances obtained from plants by:

  • pressing
  • tapping or separation
  • using heat or solvents
  • distillation (requires large quantities)

Essential oils have been used in Chinese medicine since records began. They were used in other ancient civilizations and even feature in the Bible in the parable of the Good Samaritan. One of the most useful oils is Lavender; inexpensive and fragrant, it can help to treat cuts, bruises, bites, stings, and burns.
